What are Innovative Finance ISAs?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The introduction of Innovative Finance ISAs was announced in the government\u2019s 2015 summer budget as a new way for interest and gains earned from peer to peer and crowdfunded loans \u00a0to qualify for tax advantages. With an IF-ISA, investors can lend out up to all of their annual allowance (\u00a320,000) within an ISA wrapper \u2013 so that any interest on those loans will be exempt from UK income tax.<\/p>\n

The government claimed<\/a> that the IF-ISA \u2013 introduced in April 2016 \u2013 would \u2018increase the choice and flexibility available to ISA investors, encourage the growth of … lending and improve the competition in the banking sector by diversifying the available sources of finance.\u2019<\/p>\n

What are the benefits of the Innovative Finance ISA?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

As well as offering high rates of return (up to 12% on some so called \u201ccrowd bonds\u201d), IF-ISAs make it easier for consumers to invest their money.<\/p>\n

Previously, ISA holders were restricted to only two options when investing using a tax-free ISA wrapper \u2013 cash accounts, which pay lower rates of interest, or investing in stocks, & shares. Stocks & shares offer the potential for a high rate of return, but the introduction of the IF-ISA increases the range of options open to those looking to invest their money.<\/p>\n
