THE MUGHALS is a prime-time entertainment drama series for international television, recreating for a modern audience the most vibrant ruling dynasty the world has known, in the genre of such hits as THE TUDORS and ROME.
It is intended that THE MUGHALS, created by award-winning London-based Scenario Films Ltd, will be shot in India with an international star cast and will be delivered by a stand-alone Single Purpose Vehicle, ‘Mughals the Series Ltd’, in which all rights to the underlying materials will be vested, constructed on SEIS and EIS principles and led by Scenario company directors Fiona Howe and Gareth Jones who grew up in Delhi and now brings his lifelong passion for the Mughals to the screen. The series and executive producer is Mamta Kaash, who draws on her long experience of the film and television industry and of India to bring us THE MUGHALS.
Scenario is in discussion with domestic and international broadcasters for the mounting of THE MUGHALS and is now looking for funding to complete the development package for 'Mughals the Series Ltd'.
Conforming to industry norms, 'Mughals the Series Ltd' will be a start-up company with a clean balance sheet, devised specifically to protect investors. However, the originating entity Scenario Films Ltd and its directors have a long and distinguished track record in film and television production, having written, directed and produced for the BBC, ITV and C4 as well as for many of the major European broadcast networks including ZDF, RTL and RAI. They founded Scenario in 2005 in order to create high-end television drama and commercial arthouse films. They are currently producing a trilogy of films by Gareth Jones Desire, Delight and Delirium.
Desire, starring Oscar Pearce and Tella Kpomahou, opened at Sarajevo International Film Festival, was nominated for Best UK Feature at Raindance 2009, released theatrically in the UK in 2011 and is currently available on DVD and online via www.scenariofilms.com and www.desirethefilm.com. Delight, starring Jeanne Balibar and Tim Dutton, premièred in competition at the Moscow International Film Festival 2013, where it was nominated for the Golden St. George. The UK release is scheduled for June 2014. Delirium is in development and scheduled for production in 2014-15.
Awards include:

A thrilling and glamorous adventure epic, THE MUGHALS combines magnificent landscapes and elephant battles with compelling behind-closed-doors intrigue, revealing the intimate lives of charismatic characters driven by ambition, lust and an absolute belief in their destiny in a heady mix of power and passion.
Descendants of Ghengis Khan and Tamburlaine, fearless warriors with a legacy of opulence and beauty, creators of the Taj Mahal and other splendours, the Mughal Emperors presided over a period of exceptional vigour and expansion in India, overlapping with England’s Tudors and Stuarts and surviving well into the colonial era and the British Raj. They left their footprint on world history and are a source of audience curiosity across the globe. Surprisingly, they have never been the subject of any comparable international television drama series and this project once completed will have an enormous impact on the world television landscape.
Planned initially as ten sixty-minute episodes THE MUGHALS is expected to return for multiple seasons in the manner of The Tudors, Rome or The Magnificent Century (about the Ottomans) which is currently attracting 200 million viewers worldwide.
THE MUGHALS already has the support of Indian broadcasters and the National Film Development Corporation, who are keen to bring to a global audience a bold new historical series shot on location in India with an international star cast.
The project enjoys the double advantage of tax incentives for UK-based investors and economical Indian production costs which enhance the prospect of profitable sales.
We are seeking funding of £150,000 for the Development Package, which is a relatively modest sum for a project of this scale. The pre-money value of the company is £450,000, which can be attributed to the creative talents of the team and forgone fees and expenses.
The anticipated Production Budget for the first season of ten episodes is £3.5 - 4 million, which will be sought once seventy percent of the Development Budget has been spent in accordance with SEIS rules. In this respect we may need to issue further shares to finance the Production Phase, 'Mughals the Series' Ltd. These production funds are expected to come from broadcasters and film funding bodies (66%) and corporate investors (34%). As far as possible, production funds will be offset against broadcast licence fees, protecting the Equity investment of our shareholders.
We are currently in discussion with the BBC and with Indian Broadcasters and Government Agencies. BBC Worldwide has been invited to sell the finished product on the international market, where it has an unsurpassed track record.
SEIS Shares in ‘Mughals the Series Ltd’ will be allocated initially on a ratio of 25% (private investors) to 75% (Gareth Jones, Fiona Howe and Mamta Kaash). This joint stake in the enterprise will be carried through the Production and Distribution stage. The return on capital will come through dividends issued to 'Mughals the Series Ltd' shareholders once production costs have been recouped. SEIS regulations stipulate that investments remain in 'Mughals the Series Ltd' for a minimum of three years. However, the anticipated shelf-life of the series is reckoned at between ten and twenty-five years. Continuing sales will trigger continuing dividends.
